Cleveland Europe Express expanded

Spliethoff is increasing the frequency of its Cleveland Europe Express (CEE) service by adding container vessel Peyton Lynn C to the service, in response to the high demand for tonnage between Europe and the Great Lakes. This vessel, owned by Doornekamp Shipping Services, will be taken on long term charter by Spliethoff, sailing in a regular schedule between the ports of Antwerp (Belgium), Picton ON (Canada) and Cleveland OH (USA).

19 December the first steel was cut for both DP2 B-Type vessels (mv Brouwersgracht and mv Bloemgracht) at the Mawei shipyard in Fuzhou, China. A week later the keel was layed.

On September 7th mv Lady Anne Beau delivered the first four monopiles for Wind Park Fryslân in the IJsselmeer at Breezanddijk, The Netherlands. Spliethoff Group will perform 26 more shipments for the project in the coming months, transporting a total of 89 monopiles and 89 platforms.

Majority of fleet outfitted with scrubbers. On 26 June Spliethoff’s mv Floragracht left the BLRT shipyard in Klaipeda, Lithuania, where she was outfitted with an exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber). In the coming period thirty more vessels of Dutch ship owner Spliethoff Group will follow. By building in scrubbers throughout its fleet, Spliethoff Group shows its commitment to cleaner shipping and prepares for the global 0.5% sulphur cap which comes into force in 2020.

Spliethoff transports historic locomotive to Euroports

An historic diesel engine locomotive was discharged from Spliethoff’s vessel Floragracht by Euroports Belgium in Antwerp. Transported from Milwaukee on Lake Michigan in the United States an historic NS 2000 diesel locomotive is being transported to the port of Antwerp for final destination The Netherlands. Here the locomotive will be restored by a museum. The NS-locomotive 2000 is a diesel-electric locomotive that was deployed by the Dutch Railways between 1946 and 1960.

Spliethoff extends the popular Medliner service. Apart of the usual regular direct calls in Gemlik, Izmir/Gulluk, Monfalcone, Porto Marghera and Genoa to Chester, Port Everglades, New Orleans and Houston the service will also incorporate a direct call to Veracruz. An additional effort will be made for the existing Latin American destinations served on a transshipment basis which includes West Coast destinations. The service is presently offering 2 sailings per month.

Lubrizol Corp. of Wickliffe, Ohio, will ship products from its Ohio plants in Avon Lake and Painesville through the Port of Cleveland, a shot in the arm for the local port, which took a chance in 2014 by subsidizing monthly scheduled sailings between Antwerp, Belgium, and Cleveland. Dubbed the Cleveland-Europe Express (CEE), the service is the only scheduled ocean service between the Great Lakes and the rest of the world.

New SOLAS requirement on container weight declaration as from 1 July 2016

Verified Gross Mass of packed containers As from 1st July 2016, all shippers of laden containers must provide the verified gross mass (VGM) to the carrier prior to loading. The carrier must subsequently enter the VGM in vessel’s stow plan. Containers without VGM shall not be loaded on board. This new SOLAS regulation is compulsory and applies worldwide. It does not apply to the carriage of empty containers.

Bore Ltd is a Finnish shipping company with a fleet of nine RoRo vessels and charters its tonnage to various line operators. The fleet includes mv Seagard which is chartered by Transfennica since her delivery from the shipyard in 1999 and three vessels designed in close cooperation with Transfennica but presently running as RoRo/CarCarrier.

Spliethoff takes the next step in the development of the Spliethoff Cleveland Europe Express (CEEWAY) by expanding its team. December 2013 Dutch shipping company Spliethoff and The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority in Cleveland, Ohio struck a deal to start the first combined container and general cargo shipping route between Cleveland and Northern Europe. And from that day onwards Spliethoff took care of an increased frequency of sailings in 2014 and 2015 and now in 2016 is taking it to the next level. With the opening of the lakes the first shipment has already been discharged in Cleveland.
